Here’s the equation.
Mifflin–St Jeor estimates resting energy: 10 × weight in kg + 6.25 × height in cm − 5 × age, plus 5 for the male constant or minus 161 for the female constant. Multiply by the chosen activity factor to estimate maintenance.
A selected small deficit subtracts 250 kcal; a small surplus adds 250 kcal. These are Busog's adjustments, not part of the original resting-energy equation.
The formula predicts a population-level estimate. It is not a measurement, diagnosis or individual dietary prescription. The tool is an adult educational example.
